Farming at the Salacoa CSA

What is a CSA?

CSA stands for “community supported agriculture” and allows farmers and the surrounding community to work together to produce healthy, fresh food with an environmentally conscious focus. Essentially, CSA members purchase a share of the co-op farms to cover the costs of food production. The farmers will then give each member a portion of their harvest through out the growing season. Joining a CSA lets you be a part of growing your own food and knowing exactly where your food is coming from. It also is a great way to support small, local farmers and to get the freshest foods possible for your dinner table.

How does the Salacoa CSA work?

The Salacoa CSA is offering re-usable cypress boxes filled with fresh produce, eggs, meat, and other local goods to their CSA members for three growing seasons per year. These boxes, which will later be used for our honeybee homes, can be picked up at one of the cooperatives’ farms or at a delivery location in the metro Atlanta area.

Every week, your box will contain enough produce for 1-2 people (half-share) or 3-4 (full-share) with an assortment of fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition to your CSA produce, you can add-on any additional items listed on our blog and facebook page by emailing or calling a few days before your box is ready. These additions include fresh grass-fed chicken eggs, meat, and cheeses as well as local honey and fresh herbs to complete your weekly recipes.

Each week, we will update our facebook page and blog to let you know what to expect in your box and what additional items we may have available. We may also include a few recipes featuring the items in your boxes!

You are always welcome to stop by the farm to get your hands dirty, pick your own produce for your CSA box or even just chat with the farmers and their family. We will also have shindigs throughout the year to celebrate our bountiful harvests with our extended CSA family. We will list our parties and events on facebook and our blog to let you know what is happening!

Sign me up!

To sign up for the upcoming CSA season, or year, simply download, print and fill out our CSA membership form. Please send the form, along with a check made out to Michael Blackwell, by mail to the address listed on the form. Please pay your deposit when sending back the form to hold your place in our CSA membership. The remaining balance may be paid at the first pick-up/drop-off of the season.

Members are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

We will be accepting a few worker-shares in our CSA. Please contact us if you would be interested in working on a Salacoa farm in lieu of payment for your CSA box.
